kleines Fernsehspiel

A film based on true events: Khalil is an elementary school teacher living in Berlin with his girlfriend, journalist Leyla. When she shows him war footage from his hometown in Turkey — the Kurdish city of Cizre — Khalil’s orderly life unravels: he believes he recognizes his sister, thought to be dead, in the amateur recordings.

Through the Kurdish community, he tries to get in touch with her. In return, he is asked to bring the war footage to German news outlets. But other conflicts take precedence in the media. Only when Khalil and Leyla manipulate the videos do they receive the media attention they’ve been seeking: the footage is broadcast, and political debates ignite. Yet when the conflict reaches Khalil’s own classroom, he realizes it’s no longer just about competing for news coverage — it’s about protecting his own life in Berlin.

Stille Post explores political and ethical questions: Why are some wars reported while others are ignored? Is it ever acceptable to manipulate war footage to attract public attention?
