Mann mit Wurm

documentation, 2020 (in post-production)

This is an attempt to explain why more than three million men in this country stand by a lake or river and stare into the water. And stare holes into the surface of the water.

"We have to contend with many misconceptions. People think we fish to catch fish. They don't understand us. They don't understand anything. I, for one, don't want to catch fish. You don't stand by a river for hours, you don't spend the night by a lake for days. You don't spend days at a lake, you don't spend an endless day at sea fighting nausea to catch fish. One does that,

not to catch fish most of the time.

That's the deeper meaning of it.

We fishermen mostly fail, and we like to fail. In fishing, failure finds its highest expression."
